Intro to Family Studies FSGN 1100.01

Research Paper Stage 2: (20%)

· Drawing on the articles identified in “Stage 1” (and additional articles if needed) write a research paper (Approximately 1000 - 1500 words - 12 point font, double spaced - plus references and a title page) that synthesizes the information and answers your question. The synthesis must cite information from all articles from your annotated bibliography and additional sources used within the paper, and in the bibliography using APA 7. Sources not cited in the paper should not be found in the bibliography.

· Your paper should include: 

o Title page: title of the paper, your name, name of the university, course number and name, professor’s name, and assignment due date.

Please use these headings in your paper

o An introduction that includes:

§ the question you plan to answer

§ why your selected question is important to you

§ why/how this knowledge might be important to the field of Family Science

o Method: a brief summary of your search process, including search terms and which database(s) you used

o Findings: A synthesis of the information that answers your question

o Conclusion (What can you conclude? Is your question clearly answered, or is the literature unclear?). The conclusion should include your final thoughts.

· Clear and accurate language must be used. Please consult the Learning Centre for assistance if needed.

· Pay careful attention to APA 7 referencing within your paper, and in the bibliography

· Please submit to the Moodle dropbox no later than 11:59 on October 21.

Informal presentation: (5%)

On October 23, the class time will be dedicated to informal presentations/discussion within small groups (10 minutes per person). Students will prepare a 1-page summary of their research study (bullet points are fine). You will share it verbally within your small group and lead a short discussion based on your Discussion Question.

This summary will include:

1. The research question, and why you chose it

2. Brief description of the process used to find articles and any challenges to finding information that answered your question

3. A summary of the findings (can use bullet points)

4. Your conclusions

5. A brief “Discussion Question” related to your topic to pose to your small group members

6. A copy of your summary will be posted on Moodle on Oct 23 by 11:59
