PSYC 2016 Social Psychology

Group Project (35%)

1. Class Presentation (5 marks)

It will be administered during the tutorial periods in groups (to students in each group).  The purpose of the group presentation is to encourage students to design a research study to examine some aspectof social behaviors.

You are required to design and conduct a small scale research [through experiment, systematic observation, and/or survey (questionnaire/interview)] to test the applicability of theories/concepts concerned in explaining social behaviors. You need to submit an outline, including a topic” (samples see separate handouts), and an initial idea regarding HOW to conduct your research (e.g., research method, sampling, target participants, etc.) on 8 Oct 2024 in tutorial.

Students are required to complete the following:

Give an oral presentation (~ 20 minutes) in English.

Explain and assess the theory/concept concerned by your research results.

Prepare the handouts (like computer printouts of Power-point presentation, worksheets, etc.) for sharing with the classmates during the presentation.

Give a reference list.

Submit both the soft and hard copies of the Power-point presentation to the instructor after the group presentation.

Answer questions raised by the instructor and your classmates (5-minute)

2. Written Report of Group Project (25 marks)

Each group will be required to submit ONE report, with proper APA referencing.

Around 15 typed pages, double-line spacing, 2,500~3,000 words due before 7 Dec 2024 (12:00 p.m.), submitting through the HKBU Moodle at http://buelearning.hkbu.edu.hk

l The function of ‘similarity report’ in Turnitin will be made available to students for checking before submitting a ‘Turnitin Assignment’ in HKBU Moodle. Students can use this function once to check the extent to which their assignments are similar to related source texts and review their writing to see whether they wish to make changes before final submission.

l Any student who is found to have plagiarized or cheated will automatically receive an "F" grade for the course. For more serious or repeated cases, more stringent disciplinary action will be taken.

l Reports which are submitted late for a maximum of 7 calendar days will be penalized by 20% deduction of mark; reports submitted 7 days after the due date will receive no mark.

3. Peer Evaluation (5%)

l Members of each group are expected to contribute equally to the group project.

l Each student is required to submit a peer evaluation form. to indicate the contribution of each member in the group.

l You are required to submit your peer evaluation form. on the assigned presentation day.
