Digital Manufacturing Strategic Plan - Part 2 : IST 220, Section 001: Netwk and Telecom, SP21 Manojlovich WCDigital Manufacturing Strategic Plan - Part2Digital Edge Manufacturing Networking TechnologyPlanWith the review of user requirements in Part 1 of the Digital Edge Manufacturing NetworkingTechnology Plan, we are now able to develop an appropriate and adaptable networking frameworkthat will meet the needs of the company.Part 1 Review To Be Included In Part 2 ProposalTo tie the general information from Part 1 of the Project to the technical framework in Part 2:Provide a condensed 2 page review of Digital Edge ManufacturingProvide a condensed 2-3 page review of the User Domains and their technology needs asdefined in Part 1Part 2 Technology Framework RequirementsThis portion will review the general physical technology implementation requirements for theproposal.Wide Area Network – National Offices Interconnection Basic CoverageProvide a review of what kind of wide area networking components and services will beneeded to ensure communication over large geographic areas such as that of Digital EdgeManufacturing. This should include a brief review of:Router placement at each siteTopology of networkVirtual Private Networking or other wide-area technologies needed for secure long distancecommunicationAllow for a more substantive NOC at the corporate headquarters to provide general networkoverview and backup services for individual building emergency administrative backupBuilding RequirementsIn general, a secured wireless access is necessary per floor of any Digital Edge Manufacturingbuilding to support ad-hoc networking and network node movementThere will also be a need for some wired access for items such as projection systems, desktopmachines, printers, etc.Assume a small switch/hub will be available occasional wired connection needsIn addition to individual room requirements, each building will require:4/8/2021 Digital Manufacturing Strategic Plan - Part 2 : IST 220, Section 001: Netwk and Telecom, SP21 Manojlovich WChttps://psu.instructure.com/courses/2105341/pages/digital-manufacturing-strategic-plan-part-2 2/5Wiring closets containing the switches and various wired media hardwareWireless network authentication server per buildingEmergency backup equipment (UPS, redundant servers if needed)Campus RequirementsWithin each campus or multi-building site, the following will need to be included:Emergency backup equipment (UPS, redundant servers if needed)A hub / server room which will also be the connect location into national wide area networkNetwork operations center (NOC) with several administrative consoles and backupconnection capacityPlant Floor / Laboratory RequirementsWith the possibility of machinery (printers, robotics, 3D printers, machine shop components),wiring capable of withstanding reasonable amounts of electromagnetic interference will berequiredPart 3 General Network Hardware/Software ReviewProvide background information for each of the networking technologies you will be implementingin the final design.Review of applicable 802.11 wireless standardsIncorporate a brief review of the 802.11 and any other wireless standards you will plan onemploying in the proposalInclude speed, security, authentication standards, and range issuesReview of guided media: twisted pair, fiber, etc.As there will be some need for traditional media, briefly discuss if you see a need for highspeed wire/optic media and the advantages/issues of eachReview of interconnection hardware – hubs, switches, routersThere will be a need for virtual lans (VLANs), switches and routers in the infrastructure.Provide a brief overview of the differences between these devices and where you areplanning to incorporate them into the systemReview of security requirements including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, authentication, encryption standards, and anti-virus solutionsThis should comprise a multi-page overview of what security measures each of thesehardware/software security products will provideInclude any discussion of hardware/ software security standards that must be incorporatedto meet financial reporting requirementsPart 4 Technology Framework DesignIn this section, combine the user domain needs in Part 1, the physical framework requirements inPart 2, and your technology selection in Part 3 to create the final Digital Edge Manufacturingnetwork infrastructure proposal. Besides the content from the previous parts, the following areguidelines to help with your final proposal.4/8/2021 Digital Manufacturing Strategic Plan - Part 2 : IST 220, Section 001: Netwk and Telecom, SP21 Manojlovich WChttps://psu.instructure.com/courses/2105341/pages/digital-manufacturing-strategic-plan-part-2 3/5Diagram - include diagrams for:General building configurationMulti-Building / Campus configurationServer / network management roomProvide hub connection overview for wired and wireless connectionsHardware Vendor Selection –as the project is a general review of networking technology, you donot need to work within a single vendor or provide extensive description of various networkinghardware/software vendor’s products other than what is necessary to show appropriateness of theparticular item to the particular networking requirement.Paper MechanicsPaper formatSerif fontSingle space sentences1” marginsPage numberingPaper sections and page lengthCover page – not part of page countTable of Contents – not part of page countExecutive summary – 1 pagePart 1 review – 3-4 pages (1 page demographics and 2-3 of user domains)Part 2 review – 6-8 pages (work from Part 1 of the project and applies network componentsand design)Part 3 review – 8-10 pagesPart 4 implementation design – 8-10 pages (reference Homework 3 and 4 with a largerscale geographic or site layout and a couple of representative layouts similar to the buildinglayout in Homework 3 and 4)Report summary – 2 pagesReferences – not part of page countDiagrams and imagesThere is no specific limit on the use of diagrams or images within the report.
